Housewife Skateboards: Branding

Everyone and their mom has a skateboard company these days. I wanted to create a female-focused skate company that edgy, rugged, and witty women could identify with. I fantasized about a narrative that critiqued 1950’s housewife culture and brought it into an unapologetic context. Hypothetically, what if these bored out of their mind housewives called each other up and said, “Yo Betsy, are you tryna’ shred later?”

It started out with a couple of different hand drawn and screen-printed t-shirts, vinyl stickers, buttons, clothing tags, bandanas, tote bags, and hoodies. Then, the next step was getting boards, because what’s a skateboard company without some solid Canadian maple?

Now, Housewife hosts and sponsors girls’ skate meetup events, competitions, and local pop-up vendor events around New York City and Los Angeles. Housewife also collaborates with other womxn focused skateboard groups around the United States including Grl Swirl (NYC) and Quell Skateboarding. It has been featured in CNN Style, The New York Times, The Intuit Quickbooks Blog.

Housewife decks and apparel are available for purchase at a number of retail shops worldwide including : KCDC Skateshop, Uncle Funkys Skateshop, Pure Boardshop, Tactics Boardshop, and many more.

Housewife Skateboards is completely owned and operated by Charlotte Tegen.
